Super conversation! There's so much food for thought.. thank you.

I'd be very interested in a spiritual take on 'weeds'. In the last few weeks docks have exploded in our wet garden and it's hard physical drudge-work getting them out - because they're deep-rooted and adept at anchoring themselves in awkward places. This is not a joyful aspect of gardening for me!

In my mind I'm relating *pernicious* weeds to unhealthy states that can develop in church communities - if left unchecked - such as religious abuse. Like with pernicious weeds, dealing with pernicious behaviour is hard work and not a task for the faint-hearted - but essential to healthy community.

My husband's a landscape architect (in New Zealand) and designs for very large spaces like farms, industrial sites, lifestyle blocks, and community spaces. He's written at his blog about how a few weed species selectively manipulate their surrounds in order to sustain their own development at the expense of other plants - and thereby suppress the local plant diversity. This is a theory called 'mycorrhizal wavefront theory'.

For the sake of brevity I've not explained further detail but his discussion of this can be found at this blog-post "Wild Invaders" at: https://growplan.co.nz/2024/07/21/wild-invaders/
