This week’s episode examines the existential challenges of this secular age. It’s the first in a series of talks based A Full-Hearted Life that I gave at the Clergy Conference of the Episcopal Diocese of Iowa.
Reflection Questions
1. Talk about your own spiritual/religious journey. Did you grow up in a faith tradition? Attend worship? How was that experience for you then? How do you look at it now? If you did not grow up in a faith tradition, what is your perception of faith traditions like Christianity? What interests, attracts, or repels you about faith?
2. Have your beliefs about yourself, the world, and God changed over time? Talk about some beliefs that you have left behind. Some that have evolved. Have any remained the same? What are they? Where are you now on your spiritual journey? What do you believe? Doubt? Hope? Where do you get meaning and a sense of purpose?
3. Is there anything that has challenged your faith or your rejection of faith? Have you thought about giving faith a try or another try or walking away from it? How about changing your denomination? Your congregation? Leaving church? Tell a story about that. Why and where have you found yourself now?
