Such good stuff, as usual, Jake. My ears perked up especially at the point where you said, “We’re either interested in the work of reconciliation, or we aren’t.” That was particularly poignant and personal for me right now.
Sharing these talks is really helpful to understanding what's in the book, so thank you. The words ontology/ontological crop up a lot, generally in what I read, but despite looking up definitions I never seem to understand what those words convey. Sorry about choosing something so basic to ask about but I've looked up definitions and only got frustrated! Can you have a shot at helping me understand, or a helpful reference I can go to, or something?
Thanks for asking, Liz. Ontology is the study of being. Ontological refers to being in some way, the Ontological Argument uses the idea of God’s being, the characteristics of God’s being, to prove that God exists. Compare Ontology to Biology, for instance. Logos is Greek for study. Ontos and Bios are Greek for being and life, respectively. Feel free to ask about any such terms and let me know if this helped. BTW, sorry I’m so dreadfully far behind in emails.
Awesome, that's just the explanation I needed! Thanks a million. I know you've been super-busy and you can put my emails at the back of the queue.. but know this.. that I'm glad you did a podcast with Bishop Budde. That was a wonderful thing, especially given how things have unfolded since. And all these various things you're doing, y'know, they're really great! Take care.
